Mother of peace
Mother of Peace Swellendam Community is a Marian Lay Community of families and single people with a Rosay Apostale and is the newest community of the Movement which began in Swellendam on March 1st 2024 after receiving permission from Bishop Noel Rucastle. The movement was established in Johannesburg in 1989, totalling five communities today with two in Zimbabwe and three in South Africa.
The garden was started on the May 1st 2023 and with great joy, was opened this October, the month of the Rosary. The Opening celebrations began with Mass at the Capuchin Convent, with Bishop Noel Rucastle, the main celebrant and four priests co-celebrating. After Mass, it was fitting that the attrendees would walk in procession to Mother of Peace carrying Our Lady’s statue and singing hymns. With rain not letting up, and with heavenly showers of blessings, the garden was joyfully opened.
The purpose of Mother of Peace Communities are to form communities that foster the Catholic family way of life, always in obedience to the Magisterium of the Church. Members live a life centered around prayer, and loving, and supporting one another. The communities are called to a life of simplicity, to trust in Divine Providence, and self-sufficiency, by trying their best to live off the land. Members of Mother of Peace Communities study the writings of Servant of God, Luisa Piccarreta and strive to live in Divine Will. The members are consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
