Southern African Catholic Council of Laity Gathered

Oudtshoorn, 13 March 2023 –The past weekend (10-12 Mar) saw the Southern African Catholic Council of Laity (SACCL), a body of the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conferences’ (SACBC) Department for Formation, Life and Apostolate of the Laity, hold its Annual General Meeting at Lumko Centre in Benoni.

Representatives of the Dioceses of the 5 Ecclesiastical Metropolitan areas (Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban, Johannesburg & Bloemfontein) to receive the revised and approved SACCL Constitution and be given a clear overview and explanation of the functions of the Department under which the SACCL operates and the triennial election of the SACCL Executive Council also took place.

The lay representatives were joined by the elected ecclesial representatives from the SACBC, Archbishop Zolile Mpambani SCJ, Bishop Noel Rucastle, Bishop Siphiwo Vanqa and the coordinating secretary, Fr. Mthembeni Dlamini CMM, who is also the National Youth Chaplain. The representative for the Diocese of Oudtshoorn on SACCL, Ms. Naledi Mosola, has been elected as its Executive Secretary for the next triennium.
