Oudtshoorn, 21 February 2026: On Ash Wednesday the little ones attending Aviat Crèche in Ceres, got Lent off to a tremendous start by receiving the traditional ash cross, marking the start of the Lenten season.
Needless to say that the litugry serves to remind us that we are dust and to dust we shall return. God’s message to the prophet Joel reminded us our Lenten observances are to interrupt us in our everyday activities and give us opportunities to reveal the sovereignty of God. The little ones might not yet fully understand the central message and discipline of the season, but eagerly partook in the imposition of the ashes ceremony.
