Oudtshoorn, 30 October 2024 – Ahead of Jubilee 2025, the Dicastery for Evangelization has launched a cartoon mascot on Monday as the cheerful face of the upcoming Jubilee 2025.

The mascot – named Luce (pronounced loo-tje) meaning “light” in Italian – means to engage with a younger audience and to guide visitors through the Holy Year.
The Vatican’s chief organizer for the jubilee – Archbishop Rino Fisichella – described the mascot as part of the Vatican’s goal to engage with “the pop culture so beloved by our young people.” Luce, will debut this week at Italy’s celebrated convention for all things comics, video games, and fantasy, the Lucca Comics and Games, where the Dicastery for Evangelization will host an exhibition dedicated to “Luce and Friends.”
Luce, dressed in a yellow raincoat, mud-stained boots, and a pilgrim’s cross, has the mission to guide young pilgrims toward hope and faith with her trusty dog Santino at her side. The shells glimmering in her eyes, recall the scallop shell of the Camino de Santiago, an emblem of the pilgrimage journey.
